Art Déco - styl w sztuce, architekturze, malarstwie, grafice oraz w architekturze wnętrz, rozpowszechniony w latach 1919-1939.
Art Déco charakteryzował się klasycyzującym zgeometryzowaniem i dążeniem do syntetycznego ujmowania form. Był reakcją na secesję (Art Nouveau), wyrazem sprzeciwu wobec - typowego dla sztuki secesyjnej - braku dyscypliny przestrzennej.
Art Déco swoją nazwę zawdzięcza otwartej w 1925 roku w Paryżu wystawie Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industries Modernes. Wtedy to zaprezentowano nowe formy mebli w których dekoracja została uproszczona do delikatnych linii – figur kobiecych, jeleni, fontann, kompozycji roślinnych, gwiazdek ,palmet. Art. Deco jest zjawiskiem złożonym w którym elementy pochodzące z różnych nurtów zostały ze sobą przemieszane. Z rozwijającego się równocześnie kubizmu zaczerpnięto masywne i kanciaste formy, z malarstwa fowistów i ekspresjonistów zapożyczono żywe i kontrastujące kolory, z wiedeńskiej secesji zapożyczono dekoracje składająca się z kół i kwadratów. Wracają do mody dawne techniki rzemieślnicze takie jak kosztowna laka zastępowana w tańszych meblach lakierem syntetycznym. Do budowy mebli wykorzystywano liczne gatunki drewna od tradycyjnego mahoniu, poprzez klon, jesion, południowo amerykański palisander oraz uznawany za szczególnie prestiżowy heban stosowany jako fornir. Poza pokrywaniem powierzchni mebli fornirem wykańczano je także lakierując, stosując intarsje lub w najbardziej wyrafinowanych obiektach powlekając powierzchnię skórą rekina ( tzw. szagryn) lub węża. Stosowanie drogich materiałów a przez to wysokich kosztów pracy rzemieślniczej uczyniło z art deco styl luksusowy dostępny bogatym zleceniodawcom. Styl art deco ogromny wpływ wywarł również na meblarstwo amerykańskie dokąd zawitał po roku 1925 stając się wyznacznikiem amerykańskiego stylu życia lat dwudziestych i początku lat trzydziestych XX wieku.

W lutym b.r. Mebelplast S.A., czołowy polski producent i eksporter mebli tapicerowanych, zaprezentował swoje produkty podczas targów w Mechelen w Belgii.
Międzynarodowe targi meblowe Meubelbeurs Mechelen są jednym z największych wydarzeń w branży meblarskiej w Belgii. Impreza co roku dostarcza świeżych i nowych pomysłów, jest także bezcenną okazją, by poznać trendy na tamtejszym rynku oraz na rynku międzynarodowym.
Ekspozycja Mebelplast nawiązywała kolorystyką do zbliżających najnowszych trendów światowych – bieli i czerni.
Centralne miejsce ekspozycyjne na stoisku Mebelplast zajmował nowy model sofy o nazwie Chesterfield 2 wykonany ze skóry Semanil Weiss. Na szczególną uwagę zasługują w tym modelu drapowania i drewniane nakładki lakierowane na wysoki połysk znajdujące się na przedniej części podłokietników. Sąsiadujący z modelem Chesterfield 2 fotel Bourgeoise również przyciągał wzrok zwiedzających, łącząc w sobie kombinację perłowej skóry o wzorze krokodyla z perłową gładką skórą typu By cast.
Zaprezentowana podczas czterech dni wystawienniczych kolekcja Mebelplast obejmowała poza tym takie modele mebli, jak m.in.: Santana i Cobra w skórze Cervo Weiss. Sofa Emporio przedstawiona została w skórze California beige. Równie interesującymi propozycjami były meble w tkaninach m.in. sofa Black Jack ubrana w szenil o grubym splocie czy sofy Normandie i Lord w tkaninach welurowych leo/tempo. Zwiedzający mogli podziwiać również nowoczesne formy takie jak sofa Scala - ubrana w białą aksamitną tkaninę jaguar, czy fotel Sonja wykonany z EKO skóry kaiman weiss.
Na uwagę zasługuje również sofa Fantasi wykonana z kombinacji tkanin trudnopalnych diego/vitas jak również zestaw sof Eton ubranych w wyjątkowy materiał ekologiczny Genetic – innowacja nanotechnologiczna w świecie materiałów obiciowych.
